Two-Pitch Gambrel Roof Method

The two-pitch method lets you define separate pitches for the upper and lower sections of your gambrel roof. Suppose half of your building’s width is the horizontal distance from the centre ridge to one eave. The upper and lower runs together must equal this distance:

x₁ + x₂ = W ÷ 2

On the other side, the two rise heights make up the total roof height:

y₁ + y₂ = H

For the upper roof section:

tan(Φ) = y₂ ÷ x₂

For the lower roof section:

tan(θ) = y₁ ÷ x₁

Here,

Φ = upper roof angle

θ = lower roof angle

x₂ = upper run

x₁ = lower run
